Going somewhere?

These luggage tags I sold at the handmade market were a hit:

But I can't take all the credit. I found the pattern on Design Sponge and loved it right away. And since I had a free-ish evening the night before the sale, I thought I would give it a try with some pinwheel fabric and some fabric that shows how to make paper airplanes! (Thanks Periwinkle Quilting!)

It was a happy coincidence that the theme of the market was pinwheels, pinwheels and more pinwheels! The Flock and Gather team made 400 of them to be exact.

It's just those little touches that made the market so special: pinwheeels, hand-dipped chocolate pretzels and lemonade - what a great way to spend a weekend.

I've finally come around from my sewing coma that I've been in since Sunday, after spending the last month pretty busy preparing for the sale. However, crafting is an addiction, and I couldn't resist stopping at Michael's on the way home today and picking up a few things.

Sculpey was on sale!

American Idol and an issue of Anthology magazine- a perfect night!

At the market with my favourite customer!

Show and tell (and sell).

Hopefully Friday the 13th is a lucky day for Saskatoon's handmade community: it's the first day of the Flock and Gather Springtime Handmade Market!

It's been quite a few late nights this week, but I'm excited to finally meet the other vendors and have some fun showing (and selling) some of the projects I've been working on. The final tally is 10 Pajama Pet Pillows, 4 teeny guys, as well as a selection of luggage tags, buttons and magnets (you know, because I had a few free hours last night).

Sewing some cards quickly turned them into a banner - how fun!

Thanks for all of the words of encouragement (especially my friend Jenn who told me to "Go Flock myself"!) Hope to see a lot of you there!

Everleigh.

I met the newest member of my family this week. She is the lovely Everleigh Aura, daughter of my older sister Carmen and her husband Chris.

She is awesome. There's just no other words for it.

Since we found out about the pregnancy pretty early (when we offered Carmen a beer upon arrival in Saskatoon last July), I had lots of time to think about what to make for my new niece.

When I stumbled upon a pattern for a "Modern Baby Quilt", I knew this was the project for me. I renewed this book from the library so many times, I think they were wondering if I would ever give it back.

After four renewals (yes, that's twelve weeks), I did.

I will admit, I had a false start on the screen printing and it took me about a month to get the nerve up to try it again (plus I had to go out and buy more orange fabric paint because of a botched ratio of orange to black and white that made the ink look more like vomit than a funky orange).

It turned out a lot better the second time around and I'm so happy I decided to give it another try:

The yarn fastening gives it a retro vibe.

That's me working on the finishing touches in my profile picture on this blog. It's too soon to tell if Everleigh likes it, but her parents did, and for now that will have to be good enough.

I won't be scared to try this project again, and with babies being born to special people in my life almost monthly, I have a feeling I could get very good at screen printing!

Crafternoon.

I was flattered that Kate liked my idea for dressing up the mason jar centre pieces at her wedding!

I was even more excited that we would spend the afternoon before her bachelorette party making them.

With a little Sculpey, some stamps and a few margaritas, we created some wonderful, personalized clay tags for Kate's mason jar centre pieces.

First comes love, then comes Sculpey, then comes marriage.
I can't wait to see how they look all put together next weekend!
